Storms come into our life and when they do we normally panic. After reading Acts 27, it occured to me that storms are a part of everyone’s life. Not only that but storms come into our life with God’s full knowledge. What? You think God gets surprised? No way! The Storm in Acts 27 probably could not be avoided but the entire group of passengers could have been in a safer place had they listened to Paul, an Apostle of Jesus. He had warned them not to set sail but stay for the winter in Fair Havens. Many of our storms could be avoided if we would simply listen to Godly men and women who warn us. It seems apparent in verse 13, that often there is a calm before the storm. If we fail to listen to Godly counsel, things may be alright for a little while but eventually the storm comes, the storm gets bigger until it rages. We do what we can in a storm to keep things afloat. It seems, people will do anything to save their life. I know that when my life has been threatened with close calls, illness, and terror, my first reaction has been to panic. I am older now and realize that God is in control of my life and it will not be snuffed out one moment before He says so. The crew did what they could. The dumped cargo, and precious supplies overboard to save their own lives. How wise we are when we dump stuff out of our lives so that we can focus on what really is important in life and be saved? Finally, it becomes so obvious as I live life and as I read the Bible that although we always ask God to calm the storm, He seldom calms storms. He usually calms His child and allows the storm to rage.
