We have experienced a horrible tragedy in our church. Two weeks ago a family was driving home from a Church softball game and was hit by a semi truck. Two of the four children were killed and the mom was seriously injured in the crash. The funeral was conducted last Saturday and beautiful words were spoken about this family and these two Christian Children. All of us were thinking how tragic to lose a child. I was thinking it is the tragedy of all tragedies. Knowing the children are in heaven really is a comfort. Knowing the children were heroes and donated organs to children who would have died without the transplants brings comfort too. However, we all realize that these children were bones of their parent’s bones, flesh of their parent’s flesh and the hurt of having these loved ones torn away seems like a heart ripping and wrenching experience, and it is. My heart, my prayers, my resources, my love goes out to these parents. This tragedy mobilized our church and community to do major acts of compassion and I am proud of our church and community. We lift up these parents and stand beside them during the toughest days of their lives. We cannot do anything about the reality of their loss, but we can stand with these living parents and the other two children and be their sounding board, and their support during this tragic time in their life.
