I like to begin and end my day, talking to God. I have much to praise and thank Him for. The refrain of the song, “Count Your Blessings,” comes to mind:
Count your blessings, name them one by one,
Count your blessings; See what God hath done!
Count your blessings, name them one by one,
And it will surprise you what the Lord hath done.
When I do this in the morning and at night, it makes me a better person. Every morning I reach over, a few inches from where I am lying, and touch one of my most precious gifts from God, my spouse. At that moment, I thank God for her. When she is not there, I remember how good God has been to me, and I thank Him for blessing me with another day. It is an excellent way to wake up.
I heard a couple of men talking at the gym yesterday. They said we need to be thankful that our good God has given us another day. We should all have a grateful heart and be overwhelmed with praise for our all-knowing, all-powerful, ever-present, always-saving, sustaining, loving, guiding God.
Enter His gates with thanksgiving and into His courts with praise. Psalm 100:4
As Paul said, “thanks be to God for His indescribable gift!” (2 Cor. 9:15).
Jesus gave thanks for food, answered prayer, and the cross. Matthew. 15:35-37; John 11:39; and Luke 22:14-20.
The most incredible days I have ever lived are days I begin by talking, thanking, and praising God. At the close of a day, before I fall asleep at night, I pray. Often, I fall asleep praying. I used to feel guilty about falling asleep in prayer, but now I think, what a fantastic way to close out my day; talking to God.
The first thing and last thing I do is to talk to Him. Sometimes a person, event, problem, upcoming surgery, concern, thought, etc., is on my mind, and I can speak to the Father about it. I cannot do anything more significant than pray. If I need help or guidance, and I always do, I ask God to help me, guide me, and give me wisdom. It is always a good beginning and an awesome ending.
